RE: Routers & Aircards

I'm using the CradlePoint MBR1000 with our Sprint Express Card. Works great. I have a booster and an antenna on the roof which I've yet to hook-up. Mostly in metro areas so our service has been great Ditto except I use Verizon and my booster is hooked up. The booster really helps with the signal when we're moving (for the phones). the MBR1000 also allows you to use a satellite or aircard and switch back and forth between them which is a big plus for us.

RE: Doom and Gloom!

From what I have been seeing and hearing from the media, the day of the conservative philosophy are going by the wayside. It seems that the new majority wants the government to manage everything we do in our lives for us. This scares the H@%* out of me. I want to see us making the right decision, but I don't think socialism is the answer. I fear that is where we are headed. HOLD ON TIGHT, IT IS GOING TO BE A BUMPY RIDE... Speaking of the government managing things - anyone seen their civil liberties lately :H They, along with much of the constition seem to be MIA's :E:E:E The choice this year is clear - the socialist or the facist - pick your poison, but you're poisoned either way.

RE: Doom and Gloom!

Yep, reducing taxes and raising spending has really worked well so far Reducing taxes will help. That's basic Econ 101. Increase spending will not. That worked when employers hired Americans to make their products and lower taxes gave them more money to expand. When they off-shored production it no longer applies and the tax break just goes in thier pocket :e

RE: Doom and Gloom!

Yep, reducing taxes and raising spending has really worked well so far :S I wish someone could explain to me how I can do that with my business - I'm sure I could figure out how to lose money, but I can't figure out how to get a bonus for doing it :H A friend of mine sent this to me and I think it pretty well sums up the current situation - A little boy goes to his dad and asks, "What is Politics?" Dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I am the head of the family, so call me The President. Your mother is the administrator of the money, so we call her the Government. We are here to take care of your needs, so we will call you the People. The nanny, we will consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we will call him the Future. Now think about that and see if it makes sense." So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parent's room and finds his mother asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed. The next morning, the little boy says to his father, "Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now." The father says, "Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about." The little boy replies, "The President is screwing the Working Class while the Government is sound asleep. The People are being ignored and the Future is in deep sh*t.":B:B:B

Times have changed! and I'm afraid that we've lost that kind of common sense in the change :( I'm not sure why, but for some unknown reason investors/banks/what have you seem to think it's better to hold a empty detoriating house rather then renegotiate a loan and keep the owners in it:S

RE: Business Use of Coach and taxes

Ah, different situation when the corp owns the mh. My business is structured as a pass-through LLC so I do a schedule C instead of the corp taxes. I'll talk to my accountant about the advantages/disagvantages or restructuing it into a real corp. I'd also appreciate the contact info on your CPA - I've been with mine for years, but I'm not married to them :B

RE: Business Use of Coach and taxes

Wacky - I think if you have a S&B you're correct it's 100% business when you use your RV for business. But when it's your home as well as being used for business then you get into the home office rules. I believe that when I'm away from my "tax home" on business the travel expenses are 100% deductible, but the depreciation gets tied up in the home office regulations. The IRS doesn't have, that I've found so far, any cases or rulings that deal specifically with a fulltimer using the coach for business travel, etc. so it makes it hard to know what will and won't get past an audit and I don't have the time, money or inclination to be a "test" case :E

RE: Doom and Gloom!

Unemployment is still at all time lows. If you think 6% is high, think "Jimmy Carter". A great liberal hero. Double diget inflation, double digit unemployement, 1/2 wit. And, like that debacle, the Crash of 29, and the dot.com implosion, the world we keep spinning on its axis. And the world will continue to spin through this and America will survive. I didn't say the sky was falling, nor that we wouldn't survive. What I said was that without jobs we do not have an ecomony, which would appear to be born out by your own comment above:S October 03, 2008 Nonfarm payroll employment declined by 159,000 in September, and the unemployment rate held at 6.1 percent. Employment continued to fall in construction, manufacturing, and retail trade, while mining and health care continued to add jobs. Tell the 159,000 newly unemployed that it's all ok that there'll be no problem paying their mortgage, utilities, etc. Much as I'd enjoy continuing this nonsensical discussion I need to get some work done today - but it has been fun :B

So to all of you Nabobs of Negativism - stop crying "Yhe sky is falling. Its the end of the world". Get a job, get a life, man up, and get on with your lives. Did you notice Friday that unemployment just hit a new high? It's real easy to say "get a job" - are you hiring?

RE: Doom and Gloom!

I will also add that TKRHLP is "sort of right", where he misses is that prices for US made "shoes" were forced too high by shoemakers demanding much too high of wages. Wages for jobs are only worth the value they add to a process. Customers wanted and want shoes at prices they like not prices dictated by the wants of shoemakers. Plus I think he will find that much of the "slave labor myth" is fading. Perhaps you don't consider "campus" factories, where people live in dorms (10 to a 10x10 room), eat there, work there and make $0.20/hr out of which they have to pay room & board, slave labor :H Or google - "child labor and soccer balls" and there's a wealth of information on how children (we're talking children under 10 years of age) are sold to people who make soccer balls - and they spend their whole life never getting out of debt. Maybe that doesn't count as slavery either :H Stuff like this "fades" because people don't want to hear it, but that doesn't mean it's not happening. When the "wants of the shoemaker" are to be able to pay his employees a livable wage and make a fair profit the price is resonable and people need to suck it up and pay a fair price for things. Here's another place for some interesting facts WalMart: the high cost of cheap prices or google the title and see some other studies, done by colleges, etc on the effect of WalMart coming to town. Those cheap prices killed our economy -

RE: Doom and Gloom!

Each batch of off shored jobs brought us another step closer to economic collapse. Atually taking advantage of the slave labour rates in China and India and exporting the pollution of heavy industry is what has helped prop up the U.S. economy, there would have been rampant inflation forcing much higher interest rates and the lower activity that would result from that without this benefit. The problem in the U.S. is the U.S. government's massive spending and interferance in the economy. Similar problems exist elsewhere but the U.S. government is leading the way to the poor house for the world. Why do they do this - because that is what people vote for. :H - ok, let's try a little common sense. Joe makes shoes and his wife teaches school. Joe get's money to buy things from the sale of his shoes - his wife get's paid from tax refenues which come from people who work and pay taxes. It's a small town and Joe is one of the main employers in town. Joe makes good shoes, his business grows and soon he has 100 people working for him and he's prospering. Along comes wally world and gives Joe a big contract for twice as many shoes - he hires more people and life is good. Joes' making money, his 150 employees are making money and they're all paying taxes so the govt has money. Their little town is prospering - people are buying stuff, buying houses, etc. Now wally comes to Joes and says we can buy these same shoes in china for 1/2 what you charge - you need to charge us 1/2 your current price. Joe crunches the numbers - can't do it - so Joe subs out his manufacturing to the slave labor shops and closes down the factory. Now Joe is making money, but the 150 people who paid taxes and kept his wife working are all out of work. So his wife loses her job. Those 150 people also are no longer able to pay for their needs, so their houses get foreclosed, they have to borrow to buy groceries, etc. The town is in trouble, the govt doesn't have any money, nobody is buying anything. Why is the town in trouble now? Because nobody is making anything and so nobody has any money to buy anything. This is not rocket science - it doesn't have anything to do with economic policy, or any of the other bs excuses - if you don't make something of value for which you are compensated you don't have any money for the things you need. They may be made by slave labor and be CHEAP but they aren't FREE so where do the unemployed get the money to buy them?? They BORROW and when nobody will loan anymore - they can't buy anymore and so the whole system falls apart. Basic reality of economics - the barter system only works if you have something to barter. We no longer make anything to barter with. Until we put America back to work this downturn isn't going to turn around. The middle class is the engine that drives the American ecomony and without jobs it's run out of gas. As an aside - I do agree about the govt spending. It is totally out of control - and soon the reality of not getting anything back is going to sink in and the world is going to stop lending us more money to keep propping up this sham. Not sure I agree on deregulation - it was deregulating the banks that allowed them to create the housing bubble to start with.:E:R

RE: Doom and Gloom!

History shows that the easiest forecast is failure. JALLEN4's post was spot on. A broken clock is right twice a day. If you forcast doom and gloom long enough, it will eventually fill your description. And then the fear that these folks generate becomes a self fullfilling prophecy. That's correct for describing a run on the bank - it, unfortunately, falls short though when the bank goes bankrupt all on it's own.

RE: Doom and Gloom!

Unless you've had your head in the sand the past year this was easy to see coming. Each batch of off shored jobs brought us another step closer to economic collapse. The "global economy" works for the rich business owner - he profits from the sale of the cheap chinese goods he sells, but when the credit and savings run out there won't be anyone to sell to anymore and down comes the economy. We need our jobs back. We need to make something or we do not have an economy, it's as simple as that. Want to help the recovery? BUY AMERICAN - it's hard to find and you won't find it in wally world - but it is out there if you look and your dollars go to support American workers instead of making the waltons richer.

RE: Business Use of Coach and taxes

How to determine the business vs personal is one of the points of this discussion. Out of 13,500 miles this summer 72% were directly related to going from one business meeting or trade show to the next. Out of 188 nights on the road 41% were directly related to being at a location for business. But since I have a legitimate "tax home" (my office in Florida) it could be argued that the entire trip is deductible at travel expenses away from my tax home for business purposes. It's a gray area, so tips from others who've possibly been there with the IRS would be of great benefit. Accountants with specific knowledge of this subject are not exactly in abundant supply. I don't need to change accountants, I need to get better informed on what the rules are (and actually there aren't a lot of "rules" that deal with this subject as there aren't a lot of people who do it). That's why I'm looking for others experiences in this area - if any of our members have them.

RE: Business Use of Coach and taxes

You must want to be audited.  My accountant who is also an rv'r says this is the best way to get an audit.  Even she does not use depreciation. Only use mileage on business trips. Not saying you can't. But you better keep UNPECIBLE records. I've owned my own businesses most of my life and as a consequence have been autdit 4 times now. To date I've never gotten a penalty or refund from an audit. I'd just as soon not - but I don't wilt at the prospect but I do keep impeccable records just in case :W For anyone else interested in this general topic - this doesn't address depreciation, but does address travel expenses, here's a real INFORMATIVE DISCUSSION of the subject complete with court cases, etc. One thing this discussion points out and that I've discovered in researching this is that if your principal place of business is in your RV you're up the proverbial creek when it comes to taking travel expenses. Read the article above on how the IRS determines your "tax home". I have an office in Florida and maintain a year round rv space here - but if you don't you'll want to read the article above to be sure you understand how they determine your "tax home".

Business Use of Coach and taxes

I was just talking with my tax person today and she's not certain how to handle depreciation on the coach since it's now our home as well as being used for business. I was just wondering is any of you who are still working and use the RV for business have addressed this issue before. Thanks for any insight any of you may have on this one -

RE: Help! How can I install computer permanently in MH?

rockhillmanor - You don't need a new printer - just a wireless PRINT SERVER. Google Linksys Print Server for details on them. That will let you print from anywhere in or around your RV.
